Courage is the willingness to fight when appearances or history tell you that you are bound to lose.  The opposite of courage is timidity, the refusal to engage in a struggle deemed lost from the outset.

The soul is the spiritual and immortal part of man, which thinks and reasons, has a power of reflection and prospect, which actuates the body now, and will shortly act in a separation from the body.  Our souls are our own not in respect of dominion and property (for we are not our own, all souls are mine, says God), but in respect of nearness and concern; our souls are our own, for they are ourselves.

Here are the words of a health professional: Ministering to the loneliness of a suffering person requires no professional expertise.  When I have asked, "Who helped you most?" usually patients describe a quiet, unassuming person: someone who was there whenever needed, who listened more than talked, who didn't keep glancing down at a watch, who hugged and touched and cried. Dr. Charles Swindoll, in his book, David, ask this question: What is your spiritual legacy, dads? Will your children grow up knowing that their father served the Lord God willingly, with a whole heart? Are you modeling that for them in your life? The cure for being chronically behind is to acknowledge the problem and then schedule some time to simply catch up. [Valery Burton says] this means saying no to anything  new until you have the opportunity to tie up all your loose ends... After you have taken the time you need to get caught up, it is critical that you not return to the same behaviors that landed you in trouble in the first place. (Burton, 2005)

Christianity is not a mere theory, which leaves men at liberty in relation to their practice: it is a religion which requires its votaries to have their whole souls brought into subjection to it, and cast, as it were, into its very mold: and those who affect not a conformity to its doctrines, will deny the doctrines themselves; having no alternative, but to set aside the requirements, or to condemn themselves for their disobedience to them. All sin involves a splitting of personality – what James calls being “double-minded” (4:8).  If we become proud, we have an inflated sense of self that has lost touch with who we really are.  If you talk about friends disparagingly behind their backs, you’ve created two personalities - the loving friend and the gossiping friend.  You try to keep the personalities separate by telling those to whom you gossip, “Please keep this in confidence.”  Repentance brings the split personality together and thus restores integrity to the life. The real self is made public.  When the proud person is humbled, the elevated self is united with the true self.  (Paul Miller, 2009)

President Obama says: "Hope is not blind optimism.  It's not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path.  It's not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight.  Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it.  Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be."

Friends, Jesus Christ is rewriting the script to our life's story everyday we just need an inner courage to believe it the way He has written it!

I must ask God, in faith, for the wisdom for living, because faith endures trials.  Trials come and go, but a strong faith will face them head-on and develop endurance.  Faith understands temptations.  It will not allow us to consent to our lust and slide into sin.  Faith obeys the Word.  It will not merely hear and not do. Faith produces doers.  Faith displays itself in works.   Faith acts wisely.

True spiritual growth happens only when we have a personal relationship with God.  Because we as Christians are no longer at enmity with God and are free from the fear of His condemning judgment, we can enjoy a relationship in which we conformed more and more into His likeness.  (Neil T. Anderson & Robert L. Saucy; 1997)

You may be hurting right now but God’s favor is for life.  You may experience sleepless nights accompanied by tears of fear and un-certainty but I came by to tell you that:  Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

If you have trouble in your life let me explain what King David said we should do for peace.

(Psalm 30:7-8) “Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong;

You hid Your face, and I was troubled.  I cried out to You, O Lord; and to the Lord I

made supplication.”

If you are in trouble start praying and when you get up off your knees start praising…

Just as God was in Paul’s letter to his friends in Corinth, He must have been in their response.  The letter created not only a godly sorrow in them but also a change of mind and attitude that led to the restoration of their relationship with Paul as their spiritual leader.  And as Paul reflects on their response, he draws the distinction between godly sorrow that leads to repentance and worldly grief that leads to death.  (Ogilvie, 1985)

You are the one God has chosen to make a difference.  It is your season for success.  God’s reality is that He wants to bless you.   God wants His people to connect with the world through the display of character.  If you are going to change the frequency of life you must answer the question:  Do You Have The Courage To Meet The Demands Of Reality?

All true Christians are a chosen generation; they all make one family, a sort and species of people distinct from the common world, of another spirit, principle, and practice, which they could never be if they were not chosen in Christ to be such, and sanctified by his Spirit.[1]  That’s why we are different, that’s why we are as peculiar as can be!”

Text:  Matthew 5:38-48

We must not be revengeful (v. 39) and yet this does not repeal the law of self-preservation, and the care we are to take of our families; we may avoid evil, and may resist it, so far as is necessary to our own security; but we must not render evil for evil, must not bear a grudge, nor avenge ourselves, nor study to be even with those that have treated us unkindly, but we must go beyond them by forgiving them, [1]

(Proverbs 20:22) “Do not say, “I will recompense evil”; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.”

Christians need to be challenged to use the tools that God has given us to “Build Sustainable Connections:  (1 Peter 4:11) “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

When you love the way God says to love – He will choose you.

When you love the way God says to love – He will appoint you.

When you love the way God says to love – you will bear fruit.  You will produce others who will love as God says love.  The human sacrifice of love is what will make the lasting and fruitful connection we need, and others need also.

When you love the way God says to love – you will produce generations of friendships.

We are to diligently seek God’s will.  (Matthew 7:7) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”  The concept of diligently seeking God’s will is given in the form of three imperatives and the sum total of the three propels us into a “Spiritual Search”.

Ask

Seek

Knock

God’s purpose is to enable me to see that He can walk on the storms of my life right now.  If we have a further goal in mind, we are not paying enough attention to the present time.  However, if we realize that moment-by-moment obedience is the goal, then each moment as it comes is precious.  (Chambers, 1992)

The power of oneness produces two characteristics in the Believer’s life:  (Romans 15:13) “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  The Apostle’s desire for the Saints at Rome is that they experience the joy and peace that results from true faith in Christ.

When you go to God with a request that He modifies the existing situation for you, that is, that He answers your prayers, there are two conditions we must meet:

I.               “Know the Will of God”

II.            “Know your Position”

The power of prayer meets the power of praise in the Church and cataclysmic explosions happen in the life of the believer.  You can be in trouble but as you pray your way through trouble, you will find yourself praising God for the journey.

Christians have a safety net – not giving us permission to sin, but acknowledging that we are “weak and He is strong”, and we need a strong support system to get us through our journey.

“Get Connected” friends because “God is faithful”.  You can cash in on the benefits of fellowship with Christ through a relationship with other believers.  Even when you are weak He is strong.  Don’t give up, grab on!  Because we know how the story will end we can live through the present with confidence.  Your church family needs you in fellowship!

How do we treat strangers when they come among us?  We all know (Hebrews 13:2) “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”  The crisis concerning hospitality that was the concern of 2nd John is a matter of concern also in 3rd John. If 2nd John states the mandate on the negative side, then 3rd John states the mandate on the affirmative side. If we place the two texts together, we have a very wise and encouraging counsel in the matter of hospitality toward strangers

The Word of God is informing us that we need to be aware and come to understand how self, other [my neighbor] and emotion are interdependent.  We need to understand that any bad state is just that, a bad state, and that other states of mind are available.  When things happen and you get sad, tell yourself “it won’t last always”.

The gift that “Mother” gives is faith and an example of living a godly life.  Mothers need to be encouraged to prepare their children for the journey of life.  Somebody will recognize your deposit of faith into your child.  Mother don’t worry about what the child will think but be concerned with “Parenting” the child.   The gift that God gives is the Holy Spirit!

When you find yourself in a situation where you are reaping the consequences of disobedience to God; there are three things you need to do:

1.    Tell it to God! (Confess).

2.    Turn away from the sinful behavior!  (Repent).

3.    Thank God!  (Demonstrate your thankfulness through praise).

Text: Luke 19:28-40

Our sovereign Lord is a God who fulfills promises:  The New Testament is far more interested in God’s power in the context of salvation history than in an absolute sense.  Therefore, more emphasis is placed on God’s ability to fulfill promises.  …With only a slight shift in emphasis, the conviction that events occur according to the plan of God leads to the conviction that events are predestined by God, an idea that surfaces repeatedly and with diverse application in the New Testament.  (The Anchor Bible, 1992)
